To build their four-bedroom mid-century modern house, a Denver couple will have to solidify their soggy lot, and figure out how to make paper plans work in reality. They’ll go from saturated soil to a three thousand square foot modern dream home.
In each episode of Raising House, a different dream house is built from start to finish by an A-team of experts. Beginning with the vision, the architect and builder lay out the floor plan, select a construction approach and outline the unique features. Next, the groundbreaking sets the pace for the entire project as the construction team rolls with the punches and tries to stay on schedule. Meanwhile, the design team selects the interior elements from floors to doors and kitchen cabinets to fireplace facades. Once the house is three-quarters of the way done, excitement builds, tensions are high and it’s time for a last look before adding the finishing touches. Finally, the finished product is revealed: a dream house you were there for every step of the way, Season 1, episode 12, December, 2010. Click HERE for more info about Raising House.
Resnet HERS Index, Five Star Plus Rating, Colorado Home
Nestled between Breckenridge and Canon City, this mountain home was a unique hybrid of post & timber framing package, supplied by Linwood Homes. Energy conservation and alternative uses were certainly important with this home as geo-thermal heating, solar panels and warm floor heating were built in. The home ultimately achieved a 5 Star Plus rating and a Resnet HERS Index rating of 49, out of 500 for a 1 Star rating, (Home Energy Rating System), virtually reversing its own energy costs and giving the owner credits on their utility costs.
